“BRYANT COLLEGE noncommercial Variety WJMF/SMITHFIELD, RI will flip to a simulcast of WGBH EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION Classical WCRB (99.5 ALL CLASSICAL)/BOSTON under a new partnership deal announced THURSDAY (6/2). Under the arrangement, WJMF, which is increasing its power and installing HD RADIO capability, will move its student-run programming to the station’s HD2 multicast channel and online as well as on a digital TV multicast sub-channel of PBS affiliate WGBH-TV. Students will also be offered the opportunity to work on the transition with WGBH, with the change targeted for OCTOBER.”
The article provides no details about the deal, such as whether or not a license transfer took place, if it is a lease or if/how students were involved in the decision making process.
This is not like the KTRU situation, where the license was sold and the student station sought out a lease with another station. There will be discussion of this topic on the CBI listserv.
