UMass Dartmouth Plans to Sell License for College Radio Station WUMD to Rhode Island Public Radio
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s Assistant Chancellor for Strategic Communication, Media Relations and Special Projects John Hoey explained over email that, “RIPR approached us about a year ago, and we have spent the last several months crafting a collaboration that we believe will benefit our students and the region we serve. We brought various stakeholders in to the conversation at different times over the last several months.” In regards to the FCC filing, he told me, “We expect the paperwork to be filed this afternoon.”

The Coolest Thing I’ve Ever Done
Covering an election at a college radio station is really a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most people. For 91.9 KSDB(FM), a station that’s been around for nearly 68 years at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., we’ve had our share of elections. But as is the nature of constant turnover in college radio, the next generation usually has to do some reinventing of the wheel, as student employees often don’t write much down over the years. (And in the cast of KSDB, entire stations burn down every once in a while!)

SCCC radio station on the air as construction proceeds
“We’re still in the process of testing and tweaking,” said Tony Selimo, of the patterns that represent where new radio station WRSK can be heard.
Selimo is a professor at Sussex County Community College, teaching and overseeing the school’s television operations, as well as an instructor in the meteorology courses offered.
He is also managing the fledgling radio station, owned by SCCC under a temporary FCC license issued in February 2014.
While officially “under construction,” the station is broadcasting a mixture of music, mostly “oldies,” from its automated studio at 97.5 FM with a transmission power of 63 watts.

Lander Media Specialist Named to National Board of College Broadcasters
Lander University broadcast and emerging media specialist Paul Crutcher has been nominated to serve as interim secretary for College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI).
Crutcher joins the nine-member board as a voting member. In his position, he’ll be on the front lines as he helps the more than 500-member college radio stations throughout the U.S.
