WIXQ Celebrates 50th Anniversary

“WIXQ is the reason I stayed at Millersville. WIXQ kind of gave me a purpose when I felt like I didn’t have a purpose.” Schulz said.

Nick Weissmann has similar feelings, saying about the station, “It’s given more purpose as to being here and I’ve met a lot of really cool people.”

This sense of belonging to a WIXQ community doesn’t end after graduation. Jared Eichmann was a DJ and Assistant Music Director for WIXQ before gradating in 2013, writes of WIXQ “It was like our own fraternity or sorority that we could just be ourselves in and the webbing that held us all together was music and creativity.”

Poster sale supports student radio station

Sara Weingarter, a junior graphic design major and WTSR’s station manager, explained the impact that the poster sale has on the radio station. Although the posters are provided by the Beyond The Wall, a pop-up poster company, the radio station receives a portion of the proceeds.

“It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Weingartner said. “It helps us fund all the other stuff we do throughout the year like merch sales and our end of the year banquet.”

Radio Survivor tours 100th college station

The grand total of ALL stations toured and written up is now at 147, owing to the community, high school, public, religious, commercial, and other miscellaneous stations that have been on my journey over the past decade. And for those keeping track, by my calculations, my visit to University of Chicago’s college radio station WHPK is my 100th published college radio station tour. Princeton’s WPRB still holds the distinction of my 100th OVERALL published radio station tour. Now, who will be number 150?

CBI seeks Events Director

College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) seeks a part-time paid Events Director to coordinate the National Student Electronic Media Convention (askcbi.org/seattle) and other programming. The director will work remotely with occasional travel required throughout the year.
