FCC Checklist

For FCC-licensed stations, compliance with FCC regulations is crucial to avoid fines and potential violations that could jeopardize the station’s license. This is especially important as violations can cause your licensee (typically a university or college) to question the value of maintaining the license, or even impact the station’s future operations.
The College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) strongly recommends that all FCC-licensed stations go through a comprehensive FCC compliance checklist. Additionally, it is highly advisable to contact your state broadcasters association for assistance in arranging an unofficial inspection. This proactive step allows you to identify and correct any issues before the FCC conducts a formal inspection. Successfully passing this unofficial inspection can prevent your station from being randomly selected for an FCC inspection for the next three years.
In the event that your station does not pass the alternative inspection, the inspector will provide a confidential report outlining any compliance issues and suggestions for rectifying them. This gives you the opportunity to make necessary improvements before the official FCC inspection, reducing the risk of fines or penalties.
