CBI members listed among top 20 college stations

College radio stations have long filled dorm rooms and frat house cleanups of lazy Sunday afternoons. They’re also bastions of free speech fueled by artsy, and music-obsessed students that are sometimes years ahead of the mainstream. From the 1960′s, when the FCC began issuing “class D” licenses for 10-watt stations, college radio has been a staple of the college experience, and college town life in general.

MCCC President Records 500th Radio Show

“The communication students helped me celebrate and produce my 500th recording of ‘Montgomery County Community College On the Air’ with Alma Jacobs, a longtime advocate of the College. It was my pleasure to have her as the guest for this special show, since the very studio where we record our shows is named in honor of Alma and her late husband Alexander in appreciation for their support,” Stout said. “My first episode was taped—yes, literally taped—on October 14, 2001 with guest Bernie Mangiaracina, our the Dean of Arts and Humanities at that time.”

Penn State ComRadio students cover NFL draft

Three students will anchor the coverage from Radio City Music Hall, with several others complementing the effort through on-air efforts from the University Park campus. Their work — which can be heard at http://commedia.psu.edu/comradio online and with the Tune In radio app (www.tunein.com) on portable devices — culminates nearly six months of work leading up to the draft.
