The Student Media Leadership Workshop Returns This Summer

You’ve become a manager at your student-run media outlet. Congratulations! Now comes the hard part.

How do you lead former peers? How do you run meetings that actually accomplish something? How do you motivate a staff when everyone is balancing classes, jobs, deadlines, and life? And how do you build a healthy student media culture while still producing great work?

The Student Media Leadership Workshop is designed to help answer those questions.

Returning July 20–23, 2026, this four-day workshop focuses on the real-world leadership skills student media managers need most. It doesn’t matter if you’re stepping into leadership for the first time or just want to sharpen your management style, the workshop will give you the practical tools you can apply to your organization.

Sessions will explore topics including:

• Running effective meetings
• Setting priorities and managing workloads
• Time management and organization
• Building productive staff cultures
• Leading friends and peers professionally
• Goal setting and accountability
• Communication strategies for student leaders

No matter your background or experience level, effective leadership is something you can learn. This workshop is built to help student media leaders gain confidence, solve problems, and better support the teams they serve.
