FCC Extends New EAS Equipment Requirement Deadline
Last Updated on September 23, 2011 by askcbiorg
The FCC has extended the deadline for all FCC licensed stations to purchase and install new “CAP” compliant EAS devices… again. If your station operates under and FCC license, you should have already been in the process or completed the process of purchasing and installing new EAS equipment or additional equipment to make your existing equipment compliant with the new rules that require EAS equipment to be “CAP” (Common Alerting Protocol). The deadline was September 30, 2011. The new deadline is June 30, 2012. If you haven’t already started the process of becoming CAP compliant, now is the time. Be aware that in order to be compliant, your equipment will need an Internet connection.
EAS compliance is required under the terms of the stations FCC license. Failure to be in compliance will likely result in a fine that is more costly than the equipment itself and you will still be required to purchase and install the equipment.
CBI will have a session covering these issues as well as the first ever National EAS test on November 9, 2011.
