Dave Black Excellence in Advising Award

Named in honor of long-time CBI member and WSUM-FM co-founder and General Manager, Dave Black. Whether working with his beloved students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison or as a part of the CBI board, Black was committed to helping in any way he could to help others achieve their best. 

The 2025 Dave Black Excellence in Advising Award was presented to Dan Schumacher, long-time faculty advisor for KTSW-FM at Texas State University at the 2025 College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) National Student Media Convention.

Nominations for the 2026 Dave Black Excellence in Advising Award are now open through May 15. Questions can be directed to the Awards Committee at awards@askcbi.org.

Nominees should be an active CBI Member who has direct interaction in a managerial and/or advisory capacity for a student electronic media operation and has distinguished themselves in that role. Upon acceptance of their nomination, nominees will be asked to submit their CV/resume, as well as letters of recommendation.
