Steven Hames, CBI Secretary

If you haven’t heard the news, CBI has something new to offer this year…the first-ever CBI Visual Media Festival! And as TV and film guy, I am excited about this new venture for CBI.

The purpose of the festival is to provide new opportunities for those CBI member stations (and non-members) that produce film, video and television content that doesn’t traditionally fall into the categories offered by the National Student Production Awards.

For the first of what we hope will be many festivals, we are focusing on four categories: short film fiction, short film non-fiction, digital shorts and television pilots. These categories were chosen because we feel that they cater to the content our member stations are producing. And if you make this the success we hope you will, then we will be adding more categories in the future … including possible craft categories.

There will be a screening of the winning entries in their entirety at the convention, which is different from the awards ceremony that only features clips of the winners.

Come walk the “Red Carpet” and enjoy some great entertainment at the Visual Media Festival.

To enter, visit the Visual Media Festival page and complete the entry form. Remember, content entered in the National Student Production Awards are not eligible. The deadline to enter is Monday, October 1 (the same day as the early-bird registration pricing ends for the convention).

And I will see YOU at the Visual Media Festival screening as part of the National Student Electronic Media Convention!
