On Air Next: Graduation means a switch at the switchboard

The time has come. This is my last column as music director for Radio 1190. I hope I turned you on to some rad bands this year and you enjoyed my ramblings about the music I love. The best is yet to come. Jolie Klefeker will be your music director next year and will continue to give you the scoop on the latest, freshest music around. I’m going to take a second to reminisce about this year and give you a sneak peek of what you can expect On Air Next moving forward.

WRRC will give away a cruise to Rider University student

Said station GM John Mozes, “This one-of-a-kind college contest has created extra excitement and anticipation for our graduating seniors. Last year one lucky student drove away in a brand-new car after commencement. This year, a student will win not just the car, but a cruise, too.”

College Radio Watch: Dear White People’s TV Portrayal of College Radio and More News

Set at Winchester University, a fictional Ivy League school, the show tackles the complexities of racism from multiple perspectives, most notably from the point of view of media studies major/college radio DJ Samantha White. She hosts a show at her college radio station called “Dear White People,” in which she delves into racism and racial politics on campus. Those themes have already been covered by other reviews of the series, so I’ll turn my attention to the college radio aspects of the show. As a fan of college radio culture, I was very curious to see how the Winchester College radio station compared with the reality of college radio, so of course I was looking forward to scrutinizing the college radio scenes.

CBI’s Broadcast Management track will provide attendees with the skills they’ll need to succeed in this unique field. Designed for student leaders, new advisers, and veteran advisers looking for a refresher, this intensive training will ensure you’ll hit the ground running in the new school year. Topics will include FCC rules and regulations, building and organizing your team, copyright laws, producing content, underwriting sales and much more.
