N.C. university radio stations come together for day party
One of the community favorites of Hopscotch is the day parties. These free events that take place before the main festival starts for the night are independently organized and draw not only a diverse group of musical acts, but fans as well. This year, NC State’s student radio station, WKNC, collaborated with Duke’s station, WXDU, as well as UNC-Chapel Hill’s WXYC, for a day party at King’s Barcade and Neptunes.

Thunder 91 offers free concert series in Cedar City
The Southern Utah University radio station, Thunder 91.1, is hosting a semester concert series with free live performances every Wednesday for the fall semester.
Cal Rollins, manager of KSUU, said the concert series is a project-based learning experience totally carried out and put on by students in his radio practicum class.
“It gives the students an opportunity to learn whatever they like in the broadcast industry whether it is in concert promotion, event management, business management,” he said.

KRNU music director appreciates new music, local bands
“My favorite decade to this day is still the 90s,” she said. “Then I took a rock history class, and I learned a lot about 50s music, which I was never quite interested in, so I have a newfound respect for that. I love hip-hop – 90s hip-hop. I love everything. I even like a little country.”
It is her intense love for all music that influences Howard’s work as music director of 90.3 KRNU, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s college radio station devoted to bringing Lincoln new alternative music and promoting local artists and businesses.
