The future of radio is not very pretty. The other day, I dropped by one of the many Academy of Art University locations around town – this one, the headquarters on New Montgomery, to check out its online station, UrbanKnightsRadio.com.
Matty Staudt, the school’s radio instructor and general manager of the station, led me into a room containing four gray boxes. They looked like an enclosed version of an office cubicle. No soul but easy on the budget.

Attending a city council meeting might not be on the top of the list for most college students but Gabriele Palubeckyte, who video records city council meetings for the Black Hills State University student-run television station, says attending and recording public meetings is increasing her level of community involvement, enhancing her academic pursuits, and providing resume-building experience.

A retired Amarillo College engineering director who flipped the switch that ushered Panhandle PBS into digital broadcasting was inducted into the school’s Mass Media Wall of Fame on Thursday.
Don Ford, who retired as director of engineering for student radio station FM-90 and Panhandle PBS in 2004, received the honor at a ceremony at the Panhandle PBS studio, where the college also laid out broad changes coming to its mass media program.
