Once again, CBI is offering student broadcasters the opportunity to produce radio shows live from the floor of the CMA/ACP/CBI National College Media convention trade show in Kansas City, for all to see and hear by streaming feed. Michael Marek is coordinating the Cybercast again this year and it’s time for CBI member stations to claim their spots.

The Cybercast will run from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday Oct. 30 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31. The cyber-shifts will be 2 hours: 8-10 a.m., 10-Noon, and Noon-2 each day, as well as 2-4 p.m. Thursday.

Member stations interested in cybercasting a two hour shift should e-mail Michael and provide the following information:

1. Name and location of the college being represented and the adviser’s name
2. Name and email address of person coordinating the shift
3. Name of the show(s) planned and/or the type of music or other programming that will be featuring
4. Three preferred time slots on Thursday and Friday, listed as first, second and third preferences

Michael will fill requests in the order received, so the longer applicants wait, the less likely they’ll be to get their preferred choices. Make those requests soon! When scheduled, Michael will provide an “official” email of notification back to participating stations.

Broadcast General Store is again this year providing the equipment and Live365 is contributing the streaming feed. We thank both of these sponsors for their generous support for the Cybercast, and their long-term support for college broadcasting!

CD players will be available for the shows as well as a cord for laptop or iPod connections. Other playback options may be available upond request. The equipment will be similar to last year, with a state-of-the-art Telos Axis console (Michael says it’s like flying the Starship Enterprise).

Participating stations in previous Cybercasts have included U of Texas Austin – KVRX, College of Charleston Radio, Texas State San Marcos – KTSW, Ithaca College – WICB, Northern Kentucky – WRFN, U. of Vermont – WRUV, Streetboro High School – WSTB, Villanova – WXVU, Minnesota – KUOM, Wayne St. College – KWSC, Illinois State – WZND, Stamford University (Birmingham) – WVSU, Azusa Pacific U. – KAPU, and Savannah College of Art and Design – SCAD Radio.

Michael is also looking for an “assistant” who can work with him this year and possibly take over the coordination duties next year. This is an excellent national “service to profession” opportunity for tenure track faculty members, according to Michael
