Sept. 20, 2021 Due to the ongoing issues of COVID-19 and the Delta variant, CBI will move this year’s National Student Electronic Media Convention online. Over two-thirds of schools responding to our survey said that they would either not be able to or most likely would not be able to attend an in-person convention in Orlando. Because of that, and Orlando being listed as a COVID hotspot, we determined that we could not move forward with the in-person convention, which is disappointing to all of us.
The online convention dates will be the same as our original convention, October 27-29. Now that we know we will be online, we will move quickly to put together another great set of sessions featuring a range of topics important to our members. In addition, we will soon release the convention registration cost and open the system so you can register. For those of you that have already registered, we will be in contact with you concerning any changes that need to be made.
While we wish we could have announced this earlier, we were still in negotiations with the hotel. The good news is that we were able to lower the amount we will have to pay for the cancellation. While it is still a significant amount of money, CBI will be able to pay it without a catastrophic impact on our organization. For those of you that are disappointed about missing out on a trip to Florida, our plan is to reschedule our Orlando convention for 2023.
